Pegasus Writers' Group provides a protected time and space for young writers to work on individual or group pieces in a quiet, positive environment. The bulk of their time is spent individually composing whatever they choose to write. The number one rule of Pegasus Writers' Group is that spelling and grammar does not count! The children read their own work, and their stories will not be reviewed or judged for spelling, grammar, or syntax. This group is about creativity and the love of writing. Free from any restrictions, kids are encouraged to write in any style and on any subject they choose in an effort to inspire a love of writing for the pure joy of it. As well as for an eager audience! Group sharing sessions are built into the beginning and end of each class as children are invited (but not required) to share what they've been working on. Typically in this dynamic, the writers inspire each other to continue on with their stories as they often get quite wrapped up in the progress of each story as it comes in "hot off the presses." In addition, kids will be presented with optional writing activities - both individual and group - at each meeting to encourage them to explore new types of writing and enjoy the written word. We end each class by memorizing and reciting together classic and popular poems to further explore the joys of the written and oral language. Kids should come to Pegasus Writers' Group with whatever they need to compose for awhile (notebook and pen/pencil, laptop or tablet, etc.)

This class is limited to twelve students.

*Rather than a set age range, it's more important that this class be a good match for the skills- and interest-level of your child. This class is most appropriate for kids who are writing fluently at any level and arrive with a willingness to spend a nice chunk of time writing together.
