Why make math about pencils and papers when it can be about coin-tossing and card-playing and driving a toy car around a track and hopping across the room? In this class, we'll learn and practice important basic math skills in a hands-on, cooperative learning way. Kids can explore basic math skills in a fun atmosphere in which we'll play all sorts of games covering skills such as
numberness, counting and "fancy counting" (i.e., by twos), basic addition and subtraction, number patterns, shapes (geometry), repeated addition and subtraction (in other words, exploring the ideas of multiplication and division), number families, and whatever else the group is interested in exploring. Though drilling math skills through worksheets may be important, that's not what we're doing in this class. Instead, Pegasus Math Games provides a time and space for exploring basic math skills that engage the body and spirit as well as the mindExpect the kids to bring home instructions for some of these games, so you can continue playing and learning together at home.

This class is limited to eight students.

*Rather than a set age range, it's more important that this class be a good match for the skills- and interest-level of your child. Pegasus Math Games is most appropriate for kids who solidly know their number names and are ready to start learning how to add and subtract as well as for those who are already doing a little formal math and would like to firm up those basic skills. Though this class is specifically tailored to fit the needs of each group, it is generally taught around a kindergarten/first grade level. Equally as important as skills-level, your child's interest in learning math in a cooperative group environment is essential for us all to have maximum learning and fun in this class.

If children are taking both Reading Games and Math Games, they'll have a half-hour of supervised free time when they can have a snack from home, take a quiet break, or play together.
